Georgia is one of Second Step’s success stories. She was able to recognize her life wasn’t going the way she had hoped, and hit a sharp turning point. Confronting her legal issues and changing her living environment were crucial in order to get her life back together. Once she acknowledged the changes she needed to make, that’s when she grasped on to the resources available to her. With Second Step’s transitional housing program, she was given an environment where she felt safe and secure. Her first thought in the morning was no longer, “Where am I going to sleep tonight?” That allowed her to focus on her recovery from drug and alcohol addiction and the legal ramifications. Once that was in place, Georgia was able to focus on goals which included career and education.

Georgia has been a part of Second Step Housing, located in Vancouver, WA for over 4 years. First she completed our 2 year transitional housing program, and then spent a year on the Board of Directors as a community advocate. During her time as a client she obtained her 2 year degree in Accounting, and continued her education in business at Washington State University. When Second Step Housing moved our financials/accounting in house last July, Georgia jumped at the opportunity to become an Accounting Specialist to an organization that had done so much for her. “I’m very excited to be given an opportunity to both find employment in my field of study and work for an organization that I believe in.” ~Georgia
