Dreaming Zebra Foundation donated art supplies for the “Home is Where I Am” project in Vancouver, WA during the beginning of this month-March 2011. Denise Long the Art Educator guides families in dreaming about what home is, and what are the hopes for their future. The project encourages children to dream in a creative and positive experience for the families. Scrapbooking materials, magazine clippings, and art supplies were available to start the process of dreaming. A nice dinner was also provided. This was such a wonderful event. Here are some responses from the families who participated:

“I want to express my gratitude for the wonderful dinner and craft activity class you presented to Second Step Housing residents. It made me feel very special that you volunteered your time to bring a little love and joy to our lives. I really enjoyed taking home a beautiful box of goodies, including a bear reminding us of Jesus’s love, and even leftovers from dinner.”

“It was such a fun evening and exciting to think about my dreams…”

“I had an awesome time that evening. The scrapbooking was so fun, and the dinner was fantastic. It opened my mind so much for ideas and the fun me and my kids can do while at home. It was heartwarming to me to know that all you ladies care for us to share and let us be a part of this…”
“Thank you so much for taking the time to provide food and activities. My daughter and I had a blast, and such a wonderful time. Especially for taking the time out of your busy schedules, God Bless you and your family!”

Dawne Camera is the President and Founder- Her summary:
The Dreaming Zebra Foundation was incorporated in Portland, Oregon on April 14, 2008, in the interest of promoting greater access to the arts for children and young adults. Our founders recognized a pressing need in many communities for the promotion of charitable donations of art and music supplies to support individuals, schools, and other nonprofit organizations serving youth and the arts.

The Dreaming Zebra Foundation is staffed by volunteers and funded through the contributions of donors, sponsors, and potential future grants. Our foundation is unique in that we have developed an art-specific recycling program whereby quality supplies that would otherwise be privately sold, or discarded, are donated by individuals and businesses, and matched to recipients who have requested those supplies for arts education purposes in the community.

Dreaming Zebra Foundation’s supporters share a common passion for education, the arts, and community, and as such, we are able to connect the synergies between those who support the arts and those in need, while serving as a resource for the supply needs of the community.

Providing support so that children are given an equal opportunity to explore and develop their creativity in the arts.
