Meet Second Step Makeover Winner Jennifer

Second Step Housing is hosting it’s second annual Step Into Fashion fundraiser this Friday, Oct. 5, 2012. In addition to showing some of the latest fashions, we will reveal makeovers for three of our clients, all of whom want to change their look to mirror the transformations they’ve had inside.

That’s exactly what Jennifer hopes to achieve. She, along with Charlene and Jordan, will show off her new look on the runway Friday night. And for Jennifer, it’s a moment for which she’s been preparing.

“I have spent the last few years changing my confidence. In doing this I have empowered myself to do whatever I need to make our lives better,” said the mother of two boys. “I have spent time learning what I’m good at and how I can turn it in to something I love doing. I have taken the things that have been hard and life changing, and I have figured out how I could help others in the community that are going through the same kinds of struggles that my family and I have been through.”

Since she moved into Second Step housing and has worked her way through several programs, Jennifer has been able to knit her family back together and find and flourish in a job, working her way to an assistant supervisor position.

“[Moving] into Second Step housing … was one of the best things I could of done for my family,” she said. “They have taught me everything I needed to know to be a responsible member of the community and a great mother. They helped me to set boundaries in my life with my loved ones and have given us the opportunity to live in a happy, healthy home.”

Now she feels she can have the confidence to show off how she feels by putting a better foot forward in how she dresses.

“I have spent the last few years changing myself into a strong person that my children can rely on. Everything I do in life is to give them the best possible chances that I never had,” she said.

“I have changed the way I carry myself in so many situations but I have not taken a lot of time thinking about how I look on the outside and how people might perceive me in a professional setting. I would love to learn how to ‘Step into Fashion’.”

Join Jennifer and her co-winners for an unforgettable night of fashion and transformation at Step Into Fashion. Tickets are still on sale now.
