Step Into Fashion a Huge Success for Second Step

§ October 30th, 2012 § Filed under Step Into Fashion § No Comments

A crowd of more than 200 people got to see some of the latest fashions and witness the transformation of three Second Step Housing clients, who showed off their new looks to go along with the life changes they’ve made.

Because of the generous support of our sponsors, attendees, and community organizations the show was a great success for Second Step Housing and raised more than $30,000.

“It means so much to Second Step and more importantly to the women and families in our programs to have community support,” Second Step Executive Director Debby Dover said. “Many of our clients are simply trying to reclaim their lives and reunite with their families so they can rejoin our community and make it better.”

If you attended the Step into Fashion event, we would welcome your feedback and/or suggestions on the event. We invite you to take a few minutes to complete the survey. Thank you for helping us to continue to make a difference in our community! Take the Survey

Thanks to all the following businesses and individuals who made this event possible:

Our major sponsors included Cornerstone Sponsor Cascade Flooring America, Keystone Sponsors Riverview Community Bank and Walsh Construction Co., and Pillar sponsors DES Associates and Columbia Credit Union.

We owe a huge thanks to the women of CAMEO, a Vancouver non-profit that raises funds for community programs in honor of Cathy Anna Mayer. The organization had a strong showing at Step into Fashion and in their own summer fundraiser raised $40,000 for Second Step.

Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt stepped in at the last minute to replace scheduled emcee Mike Ciraulo, who for the second year in a row was called for duty prior to the event. The mayor did an amazing job and even walked the runway. Mayor Leavitt was joined by John Fazzolari, Second Step Housing’s Board President, who championed Second Step and all the sponsors who made the event a success.

Teri Owen, Second Step’s Housing Services Coordinator, gave a moving introduction of last year’s makeover recipient, Krystal, who shared her personal story of change as a result of Second Step Housing and Step into Fashion.    The 2012 Makeover recipients JordanCharlene, and Jennifer each showed off new clothes provided by Lily Atelier and Agave Denim as well as makeovers from Salon Magnolia. They also shared their own stories of how each overcame adversity and are taking control of their lives.

“I’m so proud of our makeover recipients for all they’ve accomplished,” Dover said. “And it’s really touching that they’re willing to step up and inspire others to change their lives.”

We also owe a special thanks to Once Upon a Child, which provided clothing to our makeover recipients’ children, and created some cute moments on stage. Vancouver Vision Clinic provided eye exams and prescription glasses to the makeover recipients.  Lily Atelier also donated 10% of their sales during the evening to Second Step. And Silpada donated all proceeds from sales at the event to Second Step.

Thanks to Gustin Creative Group for their time and efforts in creating poignant videos of our makeover recipients.  Make sure to visit our website to view these remarkable life stories. Thank you to Fazzolari Custom Homes and Renovations for providing wine glasses for all attendees, Jim Bheeler Web Design for creating and managing the event website, and Precision Rebar, our beverage sponsor.

Thanks to Sports+Lifestyle Unlimited for their continued support of Second Step Housing and for providing outstanding models. Thanks also to Couture Bride,  Michelle K Mark Designs and Equilibrifit for their professional and exceptional services.
